Hygge: A Danish culture

Hygge, (pronounced HUE-GUH) originally a Norwegian word for “well-being,” first appeared in Danish near the end of the 18th century, and has evolved into a big part of Danish life since then. Hygge does not have a direct translation.

Hygge is a magic feeling that comes from taking genuine pleasure in everything in life.
Moments that could be less, but become valuable because we make the effort.
It’s about the things you love and inspire. Cosiness, togetherness, simpleness and familiarity are some ideas of what Hygge could be described as.

It is an important element, an art to Danish people.

Hygge can mean anything that makes you feel really, really good in your own skin, or around others.
It can also mean making that morning coffee, brewing tea, lighting up candles, hanging out with your favorite people, good food and generally a sense of intimacy and well-being.

Hygge is big during Christmas time, it helps the Danish people and Scandinavia get through long and dark dreary winters, you can Hygge all year long.
You can have a Hygge morning, Hygge evening, Hygge corner, Hygge everything.

Everyone needs some Hygge in their life.
